Thanks to everyone who continues to support this project, we have kept making this dream a reality in service of communities particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
With the goal of soon starting site preparation to begin construction on the infrastructure for our Center for Sustainability and Community Climate Adaptation (CSACC), we have been conducting site visits to evaluate different design options and their associated costs. We are currently working on the detailed design of the chosen version for our center and hope to share photos of construction progress in our next report.
In the meantime, we have visited four communities and built five composting toilets as a climate change adaptation strategy, aimed at addressing the El Niño phenomenon—which will be particularly severe this year in our Caribbean region. Our goal is to continue building composting toilets and training more families on their installation and maintenance.
Recently, we also launched a diagnostic assessment to identify the priority needs and interests of the communities within our network in order to design the training program in Sustainability and Community Climate Adaptation. Through visits, interviews, and workshops, we are building a comprehensive overview of our network. Because our network is made up of Mestizo, Black, Indigenous, and peasant communities, this work requires a multicultural perspective that honors each of the cultures involved.
We are also launching our adoption program for threatened native tree species to raise additional funds to strengthen our process. Through this program, we also hope to help foster deeper emotional connections between more people and the ecosystems we protect—particularly the Tropical Dry Forest, the most threatened ecosystem globally and home to the native tree species we work with.
We hope you will follow along closely as we take these small steps toward a loving, caring, and sustainable future. See you along the path!
