NTRODUCTION

In the framework of its 30th Anniversary, SOCIEVEN continues to carry out activities with its collaborative team, offering guidance and training to people with deafblindness, professionals, and families. It provides individuals with specialized products and materials, appointments and specialized exams, counseling, and functional assessments. It also supports educational and workforce inclusion and promotes accessibility.

This second interim report (Nov 2024 – Apr 2025) presents the outcomes of the goals and activities carried out under the SOCIEVEN Project (2024–2025): Five Senses in Action “Deafblindness in Venezuela”, thanks to the support of GlobalGiving and other partnerships and projects. The initiative aims to improve the quality of life of people with deafblindness in Greater Caracas and other states across the country by offering direct benefits and support to them and their families, forming alliances with the health and education sectors, conducting medical operations with accurate assessments, training in deafblindness for public institutions, donating and training in the use of special devices (canes, magnifiers, etc.), donating eye and ear medications, implementing alternative communication strategies, and promoting the Practical Guides for Usher Syndrome.

Second Interim Report Summary

Introduction

To mark its 30th anniversary, SOCIEVEN continued to provide training, guidance, and essential support to individuals with deafblindness, their families, and professionals, aiming to improve their quality of life and promote inclusion in education and healthcare.

Key Achievements

Technical Department Highlights

  • 51 training activities, including 30 knitting workshops and multiple awareness talks and technical visits.
  • Expansion of the Resource Center, distribution of Usher Syndrome Kits, and evaluations for individuals with complex disabilities.
  • Collaboration with International Committee of the Red Cross and public institutions for accessibility and disability awareness.

Population Engagement

  • 59 events, including community gatherings, Christmas activities, and account opening days.
  • Medical support: 7 accompaniment sessions, 17 direct consultations, and donation of medications and devices.

Project Contributions

  • Supported 72 initiatives including GlobalGiving campaigns, social media outreach, genetic research, and institutional audits.
  • Participated in national and international networks promoting deafblindness rights.

Advisory and Documentation

  • 277 direct and indirect advisory sessions impacting 164 people.
  • 22 formal documents produced: references, reports, campaign materials, and meeting summaries.

Meetings

  • 43 internal and institutional meetings to coordinate and strengthen operations.

National Network Results

  • 331 people supported: users, families, professionals, and students.
  • 10 new strategic partnerships including with hospitals, banks, and NGOs.
  • 144 products/services delivered: medical consultations, kits, training, and special devices.

General Recommendations

  • Continue with current projects and launch new initiatives across four Venezuelan states, under the global “Let Me In” education campaign.
  • Expand educational materials (videos, guides, kits), strengthen inclusion strategies, and deepen public awareness efforts.
  • Enhance institutional identity during the anniversary year and maintain alliances with healthcare and education sectors.
