REPORT IV PROJECT "FIVE SENSES IN ACTION FOR DEAFBLINDNESS IN VENEZUELA" (May - October 2025)
Beyond the Figures: The Heart of Our Work
At SOCIEVEN, every achievement is a light we ignite. Over the last six months, our work has expanded, demonstrating that deafblindness is not the end of a path, but the beginning of a journey full of potential and community. We base it on the value of women's empowerment and their rights.
Thanks to your support and the efforts of our network, we directly touched the lives of over 600 people, including 41 individuals with deafblindness across 7 regions of Venezuela. But the real impact lies in their stories:

Hands United: The Strength of the Weaving Project
Our flagship project, "Weaving Together for Deafblindness" (Proyecto Tejiendo Juntos por la Sordoceguera), in partnership with the French Embassy in Venezuela, committed allies, and volunteers, was the engine of hope during this period, proving that through art and community, inclusion is a tangible reality.
- Record Visibility: We took deafblindness to the streets with the CROCHEbus Route, an unforgettable event that mobilized 275 participants. We saw 16 deafblind individuals interact, teach, and share their art with the community, transforming public perception.
- Self-Sustainability and Employment: We enable deafblind women who learned to weave, along with volunteers, to créate woven products for sale, allowing them to gain economics resources.
- Transformative Encounters and Continuous Training: We held 30 weaving sessions and gatherings at the Model House and at high-profile events like the Caracas Design Week with the “Alfombra CON SENTIDO” (Rug with Meaning). This included 26 regular sessions at the Model House, turning deafblind individuals into protagonists and teachers. This was supplemented by 32 sessions by volunteer weavers in Caracas (Las Crocheteras) and Bogotá, Colombia (Las Tejedoras CON-sentido).
- Voice in the Media and Social Networks: Our work was highlighted in national media such as El Nacional, El Universal, and Crónica Uno, amplifying the cause and bringing our message of inclusion to millions of homes. A social media campaign and image design were carried out with the support of Neri Design Group.
- Advocacy and Debate: We organized and participated in key conversations:
o "Deafblindness in Venezuela" (CONAPDIS, with 16 attendees)."Weaving Together for Deafblindness" (Caracas Design Week, 54 participants).
o "Approaching Students with Deafblindness" (IG Platform).
A Shielding NGO: Support for Medical Care and Deafblindness Recognition
We know that health is the foundation of independence. Therefore, we became a pillar of medical support for those who need it most.
- Constant Accompaniment: We provided 15 specialized medical and oncological accompaniments to our users. This included managing high-complexity studies (such as MRI and Ocular Echo) and vital support during chemotherapy and dialysis sessions.
- Medicine for Life: We delivered 114 units of medicine to 17 people, ensuring continuity for specific treatments.
- Research with a Future: We took firm steps in the Usher Syndrome Genetic Diagnostic Project in alliance with Mendelics and the Ministry of Popular Power for Health (MPPS). This is a commitment to the future for the genetic diagnosis of a group of deafblind women, which requires a specific project for its funding.
A Future We Build Together (Integrating Training and Technical Leadership)
None of these achievements would be possible without the network of knowledge, experience, and solidarity that sustains us. We collaborated with 101 institutions, including companies, NGOs, public institutions, specialists, volunteers, the French Embassy, medical specialists, and universities, demonstrating that deafblindness is a cause that unites us all.
- 429 High-Level Consultations (Direct and Indirect) (reaching 346 professionals, 24 deafblind individuals, 48 representatives, 56 people with other disabilities, and 39 students): Our technical team provided over 400 consultations to families and professionals, including specialized guidance to LSV interpreters (Argentine Deafblind Association) and deafblind professionals (CAIDV Falcón and JJ Arvelo Institute) for the creation of conversatorios and film forums.
- Leadership in Technical Training: We held 4 Expert Panels within the Impact Hub project to develop educational guides on Human Rights, Culture and Peace, Gender, and Comprehensive Sexual Education (for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade). This participation ensures that an integral, humane, and inclusive vision of disability, with the practical understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), is reflected in national educational content.
- Global Advocacy: We participated in the Deafblind International (DBI) 'Let Me In' Campaign. We presented the case of student Gabriel Rojas and delivered the "Usher Syndrome Movement in Venezuela" Presentation at the Retinitis Pigmentosa Academic Conference, positioning SOCIEVEN as an international reference.
- Support for Education: We donated support kits (sign language games and didactic material) to 4 specialized schools and the Center for Comprehensive Care for the Deafblind (C.A.I.S.) of the Ministry of Popular Power for Education (MPPE), ensuring that deafblind children and those with other disabilities have the tools to learn.
- Documentation: 34 Reports, documents, references, and certifications were prepared.

Más Allá de las Cifras: El Corazón de Nuestra Obra
En SOCIEVEN, cada logro es una luz que encendemos. Durante el último semestre, nuestra obra se extendió, demostrando que la sordoceguera no es el final de un camino, sino el inicio de una travesía llena de potencial y comunidad.
Gracias a tu apoyo y al esfuerzo de nuestra red, logramos tocar directamente la vida de más de 600 personas, incluyendo a 41 personas con sordoceguera en 7 regiones de Venezuela. Pero el impacto real está en sus historias:

Manos Unidas: La Fuerza del Proyecto Tejido
Nuestro proyecto bandera, "Tejiendo Juntos por la Sordoceguera" con la Embajada de Francia en Venezuela, otros aliados y voluntarios comprometidos, fue el motor de la esperanza en este período, demostrando que, a través del arte y la comunidad, la inclusión es una realidad palpable. Lo sustentamos en lo valioso del empoderamiento de la mujer y sus derechos.
- Visibilidad Récord: Llevamos la sordoceguera a la calle con la Ruta del CROCHEbus, un evento inolvidable que movilizó a 275 participantes. Vimos a 16 personas con sordoceguera interactuar, enseñar y compartir su arte con la comunidad, transformando la percepción de miles.
- Auto- sostenimiento y actividad laboral: Logramos que las mujeres con sordoceguera que aprendieron a tejer y las voluntarias, elaboren productos tejidos para la venta que les permita obtener recursos económicos.
- Encuentros de Transformación y Formación Continua: Realizamos 30 sesiones y encuentros de tejido en la Casa Modelo y en eventos de alto perfil como el Caracas Design Week con la “Alfombra CON SENTIDO”. Esto incluye 26 sesiones constantes en la Casa Modelo, convirtiendo a las personas con sordoceguera en protagonistas y maestras. A esto se le agrega 32 sesiones de voluntarias tejedoras en Caracas (Las Crocheteras) y en Bogotá Colombia (Las Tejedoras CON-sentido).
- Voz en los Medios y en las redes sociales: Nuestra obra fue destacada en medios nacionales como El Nacional, El Universal y Crónica Uno, amplificando la causa y llevando nuestro mensaje de inclusión a millones de hogares. Se realizó campaña en redes y diseño de imagen con el apoyo de Neri Design Group.
- Incidencia y Debate: Organizamos y participamos en conversatorios clave:
o "Sordoceguera en Venezuela" (CONAPDIS, con 16 asistentes).
o "Tejiendo Juntos por la Sordoceguera" (Caracas Design Week, 54 participantes).
o "Abordaje de Estudiantes con Sordoceguera" (Plataforma IG).
Un ONG de Protección: Apoyo para la atención Médica y reconocimiento de la sordoceguera
Sabemos que la salud es una base de la independencia. Por eso, nos convertimos en un pilar de soporte médico para quienes más lo necesitan.
- Acompañamiento Constante: Brindamos 15 acompañamientos médicos y oncológicos especializados a nuestros usuarios. Esto incluye la gestión de estudios de alta complejidad (como RNM y Eco Ocular) y el soporte vital en sesiones de quimioterapia y diálisis.
- Medicina de Vida: Entregamos 114 unidades de medicinas a 17 personas, proporcionando continuidad a tratamientos específicos.
- Investigación con Futuro: Dimos pasos firmes en el Proyecto de Diagnóstico Genético del Síndrome de Usher en alianza con Mendelics y el Ministerio Popular para la Salud. Este es un compromiso con el futuro para el diagnóstico genético de un grupo de mujeres con sordoceguera, lo cual requiere un proyecto específico para su financiamiento.
Un Futuro que Construimos Juntos (Integrando Formación y Liderazgo Técnico)
Ninguno de estos logros sería posible sin la red de conocimiento, experiencia y solidaridad que nos sostiene. Trabajamos con 101 instituciones, desde empresas, ONG-s, instituciones públicas, especialistas, voluntarios, la Embajada de Francia, médicos especialistas y universidades, demostrando que la sordoceguera es una causa que nos une a todos.
- 429 Asesorías de Alto Nivel, directas e indirectas (alcanzando a 346 profesionales, 24 personas con sordoceguera, 48 representantes, 56 personas con otras discapacidades y 39 estudiantes): Nuestro equipo técnico brindó más de 400 asesorías a familias y profesionales, incluyendo asesorías especializadas a intérpretes de LSV (Asociación Argentina de Sordoceguera) y a profesionales con sordoceguera (CAIDV Falcón e Inst. JJ Arvelo) para la creación de conversatorios y cine foros.
- Liderazgo en Formación Técnica: Realizamos 4 Mesas de Expertos en el proyecto de Impact Hub para la elaboración de guías de Derechos Humanos, Cultura y Paz, Género, Educación Sexual (4to, 5to y 6to grado). Esta participación asegura que la visión integral, humana e inclusiva de la discapacidad quede plasmada en los contenidos educativos nacionales con el entendimiento práctico del Diseño Universal para el Aprendizaje (DUA).
- Incidencia Global: Participamos en la Campaña Let Me In de la Deafblind Internacional (DBI). Presentamos el caso del estudiante Gabriel Rojas en la Campaña Global de Educación “Let me In”, y realizamos la Ponencia “Movimiento Síndrome de Usher en Venezuela” en la Conferencia Académica Retinosis Pigmentaria, posicionando a SOCIEVEN como referente internacional.
- Apoyo a la Educación: Dotamos de kits de apoyo (juegos de señas y material didáctico) a 4 escuelas especializadas y al Centro de Atención Integral al Sordociegos (C.A.I.S.) del Ministerio del Poder Popular para la Educación (MPPE), garantizando que los niños con sordoceguera y con otra discapacidad, tengan las herramientas para aprender.
- Se elaboraron 34 Informes, documentos, referencias y constancias.
