Physio patients have been making big improvements with the help of Shwele our medical coordinator and Jackie, the local physio who is in the process of setting up a clinic in the area. Patient’s families have also been getting involved, learning the exercise too and ensuring they are doing them in between visits from the team.
We were fortunate to receive a large donation of future life, a porridge high in protein and nutrients which has been crucial in improving our patients on the nutrition programs health and wellbeing.
We have also been offering regular support in the local clinic, measuring people’s weight and taking their blood pressure to offer some respite to the very busy clinic staff.
Over the last few months we have been supporting a family with a set of 18 month old twins, whose mother sadly passed away recently. The youngest one has been slow to develop strength in his legs and is still not able to walk. As well as our team doing regular visits to improve his development, one of our generous volunteers donated a baby walker to help him with his mobility so he can keep up with his very active twin brother!
Kathy Fenner, one of our volunteers from earlier this year has successfully raised enough money to begin work on a fence around Khanyisile’s property. Khanysile is 38 years old and suffers from Motor-Neurone Disease and hyper-tension. She lives alone and local residents have been using her property as a ‘walk-through’ as she has no perimeter fence. This makes her feel very vulnerable especially in the evenings. Now that Kath has successfully raised all the money, work is starting this week to build the fence and make her feel safer in her own home.
We want to thank each and every donor for your generous contributions to our Medical and home based care project, without your support these changes to the lives of people in St Lucia would not be possible.
