The project will pay for the inclusion of 40 new bone marrow donors in the registry. Each of them will be able to save the life of a leukemia patient from all over the world in the future. New donors will be tested in a European laboratory according to an international standard and will be searchable for clinics from all over the world for decades.
Thousands of leukemia patients around the world need a bone marrow donor cell transplant. However, the probability of finding a fully compatible donor for a particular patient is 1 in 1000, since the donor and the patient must have similar genetic HLA compatibility parameters. If a patient has a rare set of genes, it is often impossible to find a donor in existing donor registers, and the patient is unable to undergo a life-saving treatment.
We help find compatible donors for patients in need of bone marrow transplantation. The search for a donor uses databases of volunteers ready to save lives - bone marrow donor registries. The more donors, the greater the chances of finding a suitable one. The cost for a volunteer to complete medical procedures and become a potential donor is $30. We are launching a project to add 40 donors to the registry. Each of them is a new hope for life without leukemia!
