Digital Skills for a Second Chance

By Seguya Ivan | Project leader

For many young people who leave school prematurely, the journey toward a productive and independent future can become uncertain. Limited education, unemployment, and lack of practical skills often leave school dropouts vulnerable to poverty, exploitation, and harmful social pressures. Digital Skills for a Second Chance provides an opportunity to change that trajectory by equipping school dropouts and other community members with practical computer skills that can open doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and continued learning.

The training introduces participants to essential digital competencies, including computer operation, typing, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet use, email communication, online research, digital communication, and responsible use of technology. Participants are supported to move beyond basic computer literacy and understand how digital skills can be applied in real-life work and business environments.

For school dropouts, the program provides more than technical training—it restores confidence and creates a pathway toward economic participation. Participants can use their new skills to seek entry-level employment, support small businesses, access online opportunities, prepare professional documents, or pursue further vocational and educational training.

Community members also benefit by strengthening their ability to use technology for everyday activities, business management, communication, and access to information. As digital skills spread within households and communities, the benefits extend beyond individual trainees.

Donor support makes this second chance possible. Contributions help provide training materials, computers, internet access, qualified trainers, learning spaces, and practical sessions for participants who may otherwise be unable to afford digital education.

By investing in digital skills, donors are not simply supporting computer lessons; they are investing in confidence, employability, resilience, and economic opportunity. Every trained participant represents another person better prepared to participate in an increasingly digital economy and contribute positively to their family and community.
