Dear Friends,
More than a month after the devastating 7.7 earthquake, Bumi Sehat continues to support families in Ngada Regency, Flores, as they begin a long and difficult road to recovery. We are bringing drinking water, rice, noodles, eggs, fruit and biscuits, as well as soap and other hygiene supplies, blankets, tent tarps and water tanks to communities whose lives have been turned upside down.
The earth is quieter now, but aftershocks continue, and thousands of homes across Flores remain damaged. In Ngada alone, more than 4,900 homes were reported damaged, along with roads, schools, health facilities and other essential buildings.
For many families, home is no longer a safe place to live. Some are sleeping in tents or makeshift shelters beside their damaged houses. Government teams are still assessing and verifying damage before permanent reconstruction can begin, and rebuilding is likely to take a long time, even years.
Roads are another vital part of recovery. Earthquake damage and landslides have disrupted roads, affecting access to markets, healthcare and essential supplies. While major routes have reopened, repairs to local infrastructure will take longer.
Bumi Sehat's practical support is helping families through these difficult weeks and months—providing the food, water and basic necessities people need to stay safe, regain stability and begin getting back on their feet.
