Since launching the Feed Cancer Survivors project in February, the Gennie Dean Caring & Sharing Cancer Support Group has provided monthly Sunflower Pantry distributions to approximately 20 cancer patients and survivors each month, ensuring they have access to nutritious food while navigating the physical, emotional, and financial challenges of cancer.
In addition to pantry support, participants are invited to our monthly Step Into Wellness program, where they enjoy gentle exercise, wellness education, and a nutritious hot meal. Together, these initiatives reflect our commitment to caring for the whole person body, mind, and soul.
One member shared that before receiving pantry support, she constantly worried about how she would provide healthy meals for her family while undergoing cancer treatment. The financial strain forced her to choose between paying for treatment and buying nutritious food. Since joining the pantry program, that burden has eased significantly. She told us that having consistent access to groceries has allowed her to focus more on her treatment and recovery instead of worrying about whether her family would have enough to eat. For her, the pantry brought peace of mind during one of the most difficult times in her life.
We have also welcomed new volunteers who are helping us meet a growing demand for services. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to include fresh fruits and vegetables in our pantry distributions foods that are often out of reach for families balancing the high costs of cancer treatment.
Looking ahead, our goal is to expand the pantry by providing even more fresh produce and clean sources of protein while increasing the number of individuals we serve. Every donation helps us continue nourishing lives, restoring hope, and ensuring that no one has to face cancer alone.
