Summary

Cancer patients in The Bahamas often face financial strain during treatment, with many struggling to meet basic needs. They are forced to choose between paying for treatment and putting food on the table. Limited access to nutritious food and supportive care can weaken their bodies, delay recovery, and impact their overall quality of life. Patients receive fresh fruits and vegetables, non-perishable food items, and a hot cooked soup. Each gathering also includes 30 minutes of exercise.

Challenge

Cancer patients in The Bahamas often face significant financial strain during treatment, with many unable to work while medical expenses continue to rise. As a result, basic needs like food become difficult to maintain, and some are forced to choose between paying for treatment and feeding themselves and their families. While many patients are affected by this challenge, at least 50 individuals each month require direct support, placing them at risk of weakened health, delayed recovery, and redu

Solution

This project addresses food insecurity and declining health among cancer patients by providing consistent access to nutritious food and supportive wellness care. Through our Sunflower Wellness Program, 50 patients receive fresh fruits and vegetables, non-perishable food items, and a hot cooked meal each month. Sessions also include 30 minutes of guided exercise to support strength, mobility, and recovery. By meeting both nutritional and physical needs, patients are better able to withstand treat

Long-Term Impact

This project will strengthen the long-term health and resilience of cancer patients in The Bahamas by ensuring consistent access to nutritious food and supportive wellness care. Each month 50 patients will benefit from improved strength, greater ability to tolerate treatment, and reduced financial strain. This support will help reduce complications linked to poor nutrition, improve recovery outcomes, and create a consistent system of care that enhances quality of life during and beyond treatment
