It has been a massive week here, and the energy is definitely building as we head into May. Here is the quick lowdown on what we’ve been up to:
The "Africa Tour" is almost here! We are buzzing with excitement (and a little bit of "busy-ness") as we get ready to host the National SHG Coordinators from all over Africa. We’ve got leaders coming from Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, and Uganda. It’s a huge honour that KTD196 was picked to showcase how the Self-Help Group model can really thrive. We can't wait to show them the amazing work the groups and the kids are doing.
Developing our future leaders On the ground, we’ve been running our district events for the kids. The big focus right now is identifying the Senior Scouts who have the heart to become Peer Supporters. Seeing these teens step up to mentor the younger ones is honestly the best part of the job—it’s how we make sure this work continues for years to come.
Keeping the gears turning Behind the scenes, we’re knee-deep in the Annual Audit. It’s not the most glamorous part of the work, but it’s so important for keeping everything transparent and healthy.
Bridging the gaps: Why your support matters As always, we’ve been busy covering all those "extra" bits of support that don't always fit into a specific budget. Whether it’s extra transport, emergency fixes, or just the daily overhead, we’re only able to keep those balls in the air because of our amazing monthly supporters. You guys are the ones who make sure we never have to say "no" when a real need pops up.
For example, just this week... We identified a family of five whose home burned down last week. They lost everything. We saw the kids at our recent Colour Run; they looked so defeated and traumatized. Look around your home right now and imagine it all gone. The overwhelming, immense grief—that is what was written on their faces.
Fortunately, they were able to move in with their granny, but all their clothes, school uniforms, and bedding were lost. Because of you, we were able to quickly respond to their needs with counselling, food parcels, new uniforms, and clothes.
That is why GlobalGiving is so important to us. It’s why I write to you every week—to keep you up to date with the real, immediate impact you are making on the ground. You are the reason we can say, "We've got you," to a family that has lost everything.
Until next week, thank you for being the safety net our community needs!
