By Amy M Baty-Herbert | Project Coordinator
Dear project supporters,
Your generous support has provided school meals to 500 students at the Bitame Lucia School, which is located in a rural area of Nkolfoulou. Before the introduction of school meals in the school, there had been lots of absenteeism due to lack of food. Children also fell asleep in the classroom because they were hungry or sick. There were even several cases of food being stolen at school because those children had no food at home.
Since the introduction of the lunch program in the school, school attendance has increased drastically, students’ concentration levels have increased, and there is more active classroom participation.
The dish prepared in school is Jollof rice, which is a traditional West Africa dish. The children love this delicious one-pot rice dish consisting of fried and stewed tomatoes as its flavor base, vegetables (Carrot and green bean) and some beef to make it a complete nourished and balanced dish.
Bitame Lucia School expresses their deep gratitude to YOU! We welcome your ongoing support as we continue to provide meals, school supplies and scholarships to children in need in Cameroon.
Warm regards,
Amy and the Develop Africa team
