Preparing a Place at Iftar for 100 Women

Dear Donors,

Ramadan is still several months away, but our preparations must begin long before the first day of fasting.

For an elderly woman living alone with little or no regular income, Ramadan can bring a difficult question at the end of each day's fast: Will there be enough food for Iftar tonight?

This is the question behind Ramadan Iftar Meals for Displaced Elderly Women.

Our plan is to provide prepared Iftar meals and safe drinking water to 100 elderly women during Ramadan 2027. Priority will be given to women living in poverty, widows, displaced women, those living alone and those without reliable family support.

Nigeria continues to face a serious hunger crisis. The World Food Programme reports that nearly 35 million people are facing acute food insecurity, with conflict, displacement and loss of livelihoods making access to food harder for many households.

For an older woman with limited income or little family support, rising food costs can make daily meals difficult to afford. During Ramadan, we want the women reached through this project to know that when sunset comes, there will be a meal waiting for them.

Before Ramadan begins, our team plans to identify the women who will receive the meals, speak with them about their circumstances and organise how food will be prepared and distributed. Meals will be delivered before Iftar so each woman can break her fast with nutritious food and safe drinking water.

We are sincerely grateful to our first donor for supporting this project. We also thank our partners, volunteers and everyone who has shared this appeal.

Ramadan is a month associated with fasting, generosity and remembering people in need. We hope this project can bring people together around 100 elderly women who might otherwise struggle quietly.

If this appeal speaks to you, please share it with your family, friends, colleagues or on social media. You can also become an individual fundraiser on GlobalGiving and invite others to help us prepare for Ramadan.

As Ramadan draws nearer, we will share further updates about our preparations and, once distributions begin, the women reached through your support.

When the call to Maghrib prayer is heard and the day's fast comes to an end, we want every woman in this project to have a meal before her.

Thank you for remembering them before Ramadan arrives.

With gratitude,
Khalid Abubakar
