Women living in poverty lack access to basic feminine hygiene items. This has devastating consequences, including decreased school attendance and loss of pride. This microproject will provide sewing supplies to a group of amazingly talented women (aka Super Sewers) who gather at at Grace Lutheran Church to sew easily hand washed feminine hygiene items. These women do this to provide a hand up to the least of these. These simple basic needs provide true joy and dignity to those who receive them
Women who lack access to feminine hygiene are at high risk of decreased school attendance, as well as poor sanitation and hygiene. This project will provide the sewing supplies for volunteers to sew re-usable feminine hygiene items (aka "Mama Cloth") that have been specifically designed for use at our Diaper Drops in Haiti, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and other equatorial locations.
Funds raised will be used to invest in a sewing supplies. These supplies include waterproof PUL, fabric, snaps, thread, etc. This means the ladies can do their volunteer work better, faster, and easier!!! It is a true blessing to be able to provide the needed tools so these talented ladies can sew to their best potential!
As our partner organizations continue to have their hygiene needs solved, they are able to save funds and plan for future improvements in their care. This can mean adding educational programs, offering better healthcare, improved quality of food (more protein!) - all steps that set these women & girls up for long term survival and productive members of society.
