In 2017 we built a 3-room-school in Mah Di's orphanage, thanks to so many amazing donors. The school serves now 40 children in their nursery and early primary levels. These are orphans of the house and also children of the community who can't afford school fees. The children are growing and the school just has a few classes. This project will build an additional classroom in the school to keep up with the needs of the community. If more funds are raised additional equipment will be provided.
Most of the children at Mah Di's Orphanage, in Kumba, are between 1 and 5 years old. The nearest public school is at 3 Km of distance, which is a lot for a 3-year-old to walk. Motorbikes and cars pass along the road frequently. Moreover, school fees for nursery schools (under 5) are quite high, even if they are public. Since they started this school many other children of the community have joined the project, revealing a need for affordable education for all.
The orphanage founder realized it is cheaper to hire a teacher and start a small school. One year ago we helped build a basic school that has now 5 classes and 5 teachers. What started as an in-house resource to save money and keep the children safe has turned into a community haven. Children of low economic background come to the school without being asked for a fee, and presently there are more children from outside (22) than from the house (18). You can help build a new class for them.
Every year more than 45 children will receive a better and more affordable education thanks to you. They will go on to have a better future and leave poverty forever. The school has grown already from one class of Nursery 1 (2-3 years) to two nurseries and three primary school classes, with the determination and resourcefulness of Mah Di, it can grow to be a comprehensive center where even secondary levels and vocational training are also taught. You can be part of this.
