Pathways will be able to help battered American mothers abroad, and their children, get to safety with the goal of getting them back to the USA. This project will help American mothers abroad navigate complicated foreign systems with the goal of removing abused children from abusive households.
Over 9 million Americans live abroad globally. Often isolated and disenfranchised with no social services support network like Americans have in the USA, victims are often forced to live with abuse much longer than if they were in the USA. The longer an abused child stays in an abusive household the more likely they will have long term mental health disorders, addictions and sometimes can repeat generational violence.
With this project we will be able to help 25-30 American children abused abroad by ensuring their battered mothers are able to seek assistance from Pathways. Pathways can help these mothers navigate complicated foreign systems and help them find the best pathway to safety, with the goal of these children being safe back in the USA.
The project serves over 100 battered mothers per year empowering them to find alternatives to a life of violence so their children grow up in violence free homes with their self-esteem in tact with the hope of stopping the cycle of violence in future generations.
