Help create a Billion Literates!

After a couple of months of suffering and trauma, fortunately, in the past few weeks the number of Covid cases in India – and Bangalore, have come down.

Over the last 8 weeks, OBLF has concentrated its efforts in the following areas –

1. Our Free Covid Care Centres have treated 675+ patients. Both our Free Oxygenated CCCs are now working at 60% capacity, and the Isolation Centre at Indalwadi is working at 20% capacity.
2. We have conducted vaccination camps, vaccinating about 3000 people.
3. Working with Panchayat Development Officers, Education & Awareness campaigns have been undertaken in 27 villages, to address Hygiene and Vaccine Hesitancy issues in the rural areas.
4. We have equipped almost 350 ASHA workers (Female frontline workers who are the first point of contact for the rural population) – covering 13 Primary Health Centres – with N95 as well as Surgical masks, sanitizers, caps, face shields and Hygiene Education Pamphlets.
5. Distributed 21 tonnes of dry rations to economically disadvantaged groups.

However, we cannot let down our vigil, since all experts predict a 3^rd wave, which may disproportionately affect our children.

OBLF’s efforts to mitigate the situation therefore continues and the focus is now on improving and strengthening the overall Health care in the rural areas where we operate.

 On the Anvil

1. The Oxygen Generating Plant is on track to be delivered and commissioned in another few days’ time at the Anekal Government Hospital, thus building capacity in the main hospital in this rural area.
2. Setting up a 10 bed Paediatric ICU at the Anekal Government Hospital is crucial to prepare for the expected 3^rd wave, as also for capacity building. In consultation with experts in this area such as GE Healthcare, Bio Motion, GMS & others, this facility is expected to be commissioned by mid-July.
3. With a view to focus on the first rung of the rural Health Care, we are also planning to shore up capacity at 3 Primary Health Care Centres in Anekal Taluk. This will include setting up mini Oxygen Generation Plants, as well as increasing bed capacity and power back-up.
4. A Home based Surveillance and Screening Module for Early Detection and Tele-care is being piloted with 12 of our rural ladies in collaboration with the NGO Swasti. If found effective, we will expand this module to cover more areas.
