Early Childhood Education
To make our decade old flagship Primary Education Program more effective, from academic year 2021-22, we have tied up with another Non-profit, to run a pilot ECE program in 5 of our adopted Rural Government Primary schools. This will enable us to have a more comprehensive and meaningful interaction with the children we serve, right from a very early age. We hope to extend it to all our adopted schools in a not too distant future.
With the determination not to let our children lose out on learning in these critical years, we have launched the Home Learning Program for these schools. The home learning program brings together the best practices of our partner – Key Education Foundation, learned from successfully implementing this for 1500+ children in 2020-21. We follow a hybrid, low-tech method of learning, where we share parent-facing audios and videos with daily instructions [via WhatsApp in the vernacular language] combined with physical worksheets and learning materials. This ensures that children are still learning through play and with hands-on experiences. The parents are also supported by a teacher who visits the school every week to meet with them, guide them, conduct workshops and assessments.
New teachers were hired and trained for this purpose, and as of now, this fledgling program has enrolled about 100 young rural children.
We will be measuring the frequency and quality of all inputs and outputs at the level of School, Teacher, Parent and Students. We will also measure the impact of the program on Parents and Learning outcomes of Children through: Parent Survey and Student Assessments, using a national level assessment designed to measure age appropriate development for every child in the program. This is conducted as an in-person assessment with every child at the beginning and end of the program. Our Beginning of year assessments are currently in-progress and should be completed soon.
