A Care Package Is Only the Beginning

A few months have passed since we completed the 12th edition of A Care Package for a Senior, and we would like to begin with a simple message to our first supporter on GlobalGiving: thank you for joining this project.

Your contribution is part of a much larger effort to make sure that elderly people experiencing loneliness, financial difficulties, and social exclusion know that they have not been forgotten.

This year, 928 seniors across Poland received care packages worth a total of PLN 189,312. The initiative brought together 109 volunteers, who contributed 281 hours of their time, as well as 37 social partners and 15 companies.

But these numbers describe only part of the impact.

The packages contain practical everyday products — food, cosmetics, household supplies, and other essentials that can help ease the pressure on a limited household budget. Yet the most important part of the project often begins when the package reaches the door.

For many of the seniors we support, the delivery becomes an opportunity to meet another person, talk, share memories, and simply spend some time together. One of this year's first packages was delivered to a woman who had participated in the Warsaw Uprising. What was planned as a short delivery turned into a long conversation about her life, history, and experiences.

Moments like this remind us that A Care Package for a Senior is not only a material aid project. It is a project about human connection.

There is another reason this initiative is particularly important to us. The idea was originally created by young people growing up in residential foster care. Young people from care facilities continue to participate in the project today. Those who have experienced difficulties and a lack of stability themselves are given an opportunity to become volunteers, take responsibility, and support someone else.

This intergenerational dimension remains at the heart of the initiative.

As we prepare for the next edition, we want to preserve what works best: combining practical assistance with personal encounters and bringing together young people, volunteers, local organizations, businesses, and donors around a shared goal.

Because sometimes a package provides what someone needs today — but the visit reminds them that they still matter.

Project Report: A Care Package for a Senior - Fina

Summary

Thanks to your support, we successfully completed the “Care Package for a Senior” campaign. Together, we delivered nearly 1,000 care packages to elderly people across Poland who are at risk of poverty and social isolation.

For many recipients, this was more than material support — it was a sign that they are not forgotten.

What We Achieved

Nearly 1,000 care packages delivered
Hundreds of seniors supported across multiple regions in Poland
Cooperation with local institutions, social workers, and community partners

Each package included essential items such as:

food products
hygiene supplies
basic daily necessities

But just as importantly, each package carried a message of care, dignity, and human connection.

Why This Matters

Many elderly people in Poland face:

low pensions and rising living costs
limited access to healthcare and support
loneliness and social exclusion

For those living alone, even small support can make a meaningful difference.

This project helped reduce:

immediate financial pressure
emotional isolation
the feeling of being left behind

Voices from the Field

While we often talk about numbers, what truly defines this project are the human stories.

Recipients frequently shared that:

they had not received this kind of help before
the packages brought them a sense of relief and security
knowing someone cared was just as important as the contents of the package

Challenges

Reaching those most in need required:

careful coordination with local partners
identifying seniors who are often invisible in the system
organizing logistics across different regions

Despite these challenges, strong cooperation and commitment allowed us to deliver support effectively and on time.

Long-Term Impact

Although each package is a one-time intervention, its impact goes further:

it strengthens trust in support networks
it builds a sense of community and solidarity
it opens the door for continued engagement with vulnerable seniors

This campaign also helped us better understand the scale of need and improve future support programs.
