One of BonZeb's goals is to give support and assistance to local farmers and right now that aid is to supply a second oxen team and plow so that more farmers can get their crops planted. The plow allows them to dig deeper harrows and that means better yields in the long run. The second part of this campaign is to obtain a mule train to move our feedstock down the mountain to our kiln site. This is where the grass is converted into charcoal for cooking. These purchases will also create new jobs.
The problem this campaign addresses is the fact that local farmers only scratch the surface of the ground with their current tools. This means that the nutrients in the ground are not fully accessible. The problem with the transportation of our feedstock to our kiln is that the two mile trek is very steep and the use of a truck to accomplish this task brings with it the negative effects in impacts of the roadway used by the neighbors to get to market.
With the oxen team and plow it allows the farmers to dig deeper, plant deeper and have greater yields, which in turn gives them income for their families. The mule train allows our feedstock to make it down the mountain to our kiln site. This allows us to not use trucks, gas or diesel to accomplish this.
The long term impact of this campaign is the increase in jobs for the locals who use the plow and guide the mule train. It also we allow us to train locals in animal care, feeding and general care. That in itself is another job or two. Jobs creation is our main goals with this project and our overarching project at BonZeb.
