Since 1992, ANDA (Associação Nacional para o Desenvolvimento Auto-Sustentado) has stood as a lifeline for orphaned and vulnerable children in Mozambique. From its base in Manica Province, this grassroots organization has worked at the heart of rural and peri-urban communities, helping families weather the storms of HIV/AIDS, poverty, and gender-based violence. The project aims at Following-up and Reactivating 42 Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups of 835 HIV+ Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Caregivers with approximately 2,505 OVC in four districts in Manica Province. Caregivers are the foundation of family and community health. Strengthening them directly improves treatment adherence, child protection, and household stability.
Now the project is focusing on only one district, that is Manica District due to limited funds. As funds come in, we hope to reach other districts.
By the end of the project, Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Caregivers will get better quality of life and livelihood, which will be helpful to increase their social and economic empowerment. As a result, the future will be bright not only to 835 HIV+ OVC Caregivers but also to the 2,505 OVC.
