"A Name and a Future" protects children born of wartime violence in East Aleppo, who face stigma and marginalization alongside their mothers. The project helps them gain legal recognition, and today that most children have been registered, the project continues focusing on literacy, school support and psychosocial care. It empowers children and families to rebuild lives, offering a path out of exclusion, child labor and social marginalization toward a dignified and hopeful future.
In East Aleppo, the poorest area of the city, live thousands of children born of wartime sexual violence and their mothers in East Aleppo face stigma and marginalization. While most legal registration needs are now met, the city remains fragile: children still struggle with disrupted education, limited access to psychological support, and social exclusion. Many are at risk of child labor and trauma, requiring ongoing protection, learning opportunities and psychosocial intervention.
The project now emphasizes literacy, school support and psychosocial sessions to address trauma and prevent child labor. Community centres serve as safe hubs where children and families can access learning and emotional support. By responding to emerging needs rather than legal registration alone, the project strengthens resilience, social inclusion, and educational and personal development in East Aleppo.
Children gain education, emotional stability and social inclusion, while families achieve psychological and social resilience. Inclusive centres reduce stigma and prevent exploitation, offering structured pathways to growth. Over time, empowered youth and cohesive communities break cycles of marginalization, fostering hope, stability and sustainable development in East Aleppo, even after the initial legal recognition phase is complete.
