Samreen After treatment
Samreen After treatment

37 year old Samreen knew one thing since she was a child, when she has kids, she will dedicate her life towards being the best mother she could be. Alas, she did become a mother, but life threw a series of traumatic volleys her way. Not only did she need to raise her 4 beautiful daughters, she also had to struggle with severe financial difficulties , survive an abusive marriage for almost a decade before she decided to leave and start afresh.

After she left her husband, her brothers who supported her also got married and moved away to other towns, contributing bare minimum towards her expenses. Left alone with 4 daughters, a rented home and severe mental agony- Samreen did not give up and honed her skill of cooking and started working at peoples houses as a cook. She works all day and spends her evenings with her daughters ensuring that they are doing well at school and working hard. A happy go lucky person, Samreen’s smile never lets on the tumultous life she leads, she wants her daughters to see her happy so that they grow upto be confident young women who have the ability to take on life and all its challenges.

Samreen never feared for her future as much as did when her eyesight began to get hazy to the extent that she cut her hands while cutting vegetables. Going to work and coming back became a cumbersome task. Seeing her plight, one of her employers took her to a local ophthamologist. She was diagnosed with cataract in her right eye and was told to get it operated immediately.

Upon inquring the how much the treatment would cost, Samreen’s worry grew by leaps.

She could not afford the surgery cost and felt the most helpless she ever had in her life. She feared what would happen to her daughters if she lost her sight and the thought the challenges that would accompany truly crushed her soul.

She spoke to her employers about taking a loan when one of them told him about LRBT Hospital and its free services for the poor. Samreen had a successful surgery at LRBT absolutely free of cost and at the post op checkup expressed her gratitude with tears in her eyes. Her smile said what she could not put into words, she could see again and despite the challenges life continues to throw her way, she spearheads and carries on with resilience and conviction. She can clearly see her future now, and with the hardwork and perseverance shes putting in , it is bright!
