Dear Donor,
The worsening of the offensive launched by the Ethiopian and Eritrean troops in the northern front of Tigrè has forced the Eritrean Government to deal with its internal forces and with the always increasing desertions. The first call to arms was launched at the end of September, when the offensive started in the North of Tigrè, but it didn’t lead to the hoped results and a great number of the reservists called did not go to the draft offices. This pushed the local authorities to pursue a forced enlistment of men.
Moreover, in these last months the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki has reinforced the enlistment techniques with raids in different cities and in the countryside and with checkpoints in Asmara, arresting the relatives and sequestering cattle of the deserters. According to the media and the international diplomatic service agencies, the Eritrean Government has called men till 55 years old in order to rebuild and expand the army. This mobilization has been reported with concern by the Government of the United Kingdom and Canada, which has alerted their fellow citizens resident in Eritrea to limit their movements.
In order to support the local population, Aleimar collaborates since many years with our local partner in favor of a lot of families settled in the rural villages of the Country. As these families lives exclusively on agricultural and pastoral activities Aleimar provide them with goats and sheep. The main purpose protecting their right to food and increasing their economic incomes. Thanks to GlobalGiving’s Donors, we have raised 635 USD that will allow us to provide them with 8 sheep. This is a great goal!
Thanks for your constant support!
