In the outskirts of Manaus (Brazil), there is evident marginalization, poverty and social vulnerability. The project, managed by the partners (the parish "Nossa Senhora das gracas" and Aleimar), aims to fight against malnutrition by providing basic and high-quality food to children and elderly people who live in the favelas. There are nine canteens, each attended by 30 up to 90 children that provide around 600 meals per day, for the whole week.
In the favelas of Manaus, a city in the Amazon region, poverty is widespread and access to basic services is limited. Many residents live in precarious housing without proper sanitation or reliable infrastructure. While the official unemployment rate is high, informal employment is very common and many rely on low-paid and unstable work. Food insecurity is widespread, and many families struggle to afford a healthy diet.
The project is carried out thanks to the collaboration with the parish "Nossa Senhora das gracas" to support the most vulnerable and marginalized people of "Colonia Antonio Aleixo" slum. The project manages nine canteens, each attended by between 30 and 90 children. Volunteers and children's mothers will cook hot meals for the little ones and for the elderly. At present, the project provides around 600 meals per day, reducing the risk of malnutrition for children living in the favelas.
The project aims to achieve child protection, food security and physical health in the slums of the city of Manaus, providing around 600 meals per day. The contribution of the partners will lead to significant human and social development in the Amazon region. Finally, this project will ensure a cross-generational well-being, providing a strong community networking able to support the most vulnerable people.
