Finally, after so many months of patience and perseverance, we eventually celebrated our Groundbreaking ceremony for our new center in Silay City, Negros, on January 10th, 2018. Many personalities attended this warm event including the bishop of Bacolod who blessed the land, the mayor of Silay Mark Golez, Mario Deriquito the president of BDO foundation, a major sponsor, the foundress of CAMELEON, Laurence Ligier and of course the staff and the architects. The event was also attended by Zonta Club of Makati Ayala President Rita Dy and Zonta Club of Makati and Environs President Mita Rufino, key individuals, partners, public officials, and stakeholders. The two Zonta Clubs helped source local funding and the lot for this project.
The TV station ABS-CBN was able to witness and disseminate the information on a local TV program.
It felt good to gather for this memorable moment with all those who supported the project despite all odds. Now that we have a land, donated by the City of Silay, we can safely consider the next steps, which are the final site development, the preparation and submission of the building permits, the updated quotation of the contractors and the kicking-off of the works.
We are targeting to start the construction on March 8th, the International Women’s Day, a symbol of the mission, as these buildings will benefit the girls and the women of Negros.
We also want to thank our partners in Luxembourg: Coopération Humanitaire Luxembourg, Fondation NIF and the Luxembourg Government. They have been great supporters of the project, throughout all impediments.
