Two years ago, Adriana, our beloved founder, friend and mentor, began dreaming of a project that could contribute to the autonomy of indigenous craftswomen: a social enterprise based in Chiapas, Mexico built in unity, diversity, respect and harmony. Unfortunately, Adriana passed away recently, but despite her physical absence, her legacy remains alive in us and her honest vision continues to guide us. Today, you can be part of this dream.
Los Altos de Chiapas is one of the regions with the highest rates of marginalization and extreme poverty in Mexico. These has led women, especially indigenous, face high vulnerability conditions in their everyday lives. However, they are constantly searching to self-improve in order to offer a better life for their families. This project aims precisely to contribute to/ improve their economic and social development through their traditional textile crafts.
Adriana envisioned JUXTA NATION, a life-changing social enterprise providing indigenous women with the necessary means to exercise their rights and to take their own decisions. JUXTA NATION promotes handmade contemporary textile products via an e-commerce platform co-owned by five groups of craftswomen in Chiapas. These women will have access to continuous training, developing their skills in different business areas. Now is the time to consolidate a social enterprise for them, owned by them.
Through a continuous process, JUXTA NATION will help indigenous craftswomen become women entrepreneurs, while empowering them, dignifying their work and distributing their textiles. The five craftswomen groups will reach a high level of experience and gain strength, as their skills and technical capabilities improve. As a result, the craftswomen will achieve autonomy through sustainable social entrepreneurship, fulfilling the ultimate goal of NGOimpacto: Good Living, or Lekil Kuxlejal for all
