Ewafe Project: 2024 Highlights

By Andy Brown | Fundraising Manager

I hope that the following update on our Ewafe project, reflecting on a few of our key highlights from 2024, is able to inspire you and provide further encouragement that your kind support continues to make such a life changing difference.

Ewafe Project - Highlights from 2024

The need for our Ewafe Project remained strong in 2024. As the year ended, 84 children were staying at the Ewafe home, reflecting both the demand for our care and our deep-rooted presence in the communities we serve. Local leaders and authorities trust us, regularly referring children into our care, while our Community Safeguarding Officers across Kampala remain vigilant, ensuring timely interventions.

Our ability to protect vulnerable children goes beyond the Ewafe home—it starts in the community. By embedding ourselves within these communities, we can identify and support children before they reach crisis point. This holistic, community-led approach is what makes our work so impactful.

Whilst we recognise the importance of working with local leaders, we also recognise the importance of working with children's families, to ensure that children who are reintegrated go back to a loving and stable family environment. We support families in numerous ways, including supporting families with Income Generating Activities. Richard*, a single father of eight, was struggling to support his children, leading to their temporary stay at the Ewafe Project. Unemployed and without stable housing, he longed to reunite with them. Seeing his passion for agriculture, we provided him with two acres of rented land for a year, giving him the opportunity to grow crops for both income and sustenance. Richard is now doing much better, and we anticipate he will soon be ready to reunite with his children. *Name Changed
