Ewafe Project: 2025 Highlights

I hope that the following update on our Ewafe Project, reflecting on a few of our key highlights from 2025, inspires you. Your kind support is the driving force behind our work, empowering us to make a lasting difference across East Africa. Thank you.

Ewafe Project - Highlights from 2025

The need for our Ewafe Project remained strong in 2025. As the year ended, 80 children were staying at the Ewafe home, reflecting both the demand for our services and our deep-rooted presence in the communities we serve.

80 children in total were cared for at our Ewafe home, each receiving nutritious meals, medical care, education, counselling and play-based activities.
26 children in vulnerable situations were rescued and welcomed to a place of safety at our Ewafe home.
21 families were traced by our team of social workers.
20 children were reintegrated into loving families.
8 children were supported with skills and resources to prepare for independent living.
1 child was successfully placed with a foster family.

This is Minah's* story…

In 2023, Minah’s* father faced some financial challenges and her family became homeless. As a result, Minah and her siblings were admitted to the Ewafe home. At the time, she felt hopeless and worried about her family’s situation.

Now, at age 14, Minah has graduated from a 9-month hair dressing course. She shared:

“I appreciate Kids Club Kampala for helping me towards achieving this goal. God is faithful that my dad was helped by Kids Club, got a home and my siblings went back to him and are now in school. I also appreciate the counsellor and home nurse that have been counselling me towards various topics like sex education, hygiene, trusting in God and good discipline. All these attributes have helped me gain confidence in myself and in graduating. May God bless Kids Club Kampala abundantly. Thank you.”

As she continues her stay at the Ewafe home, Minah’s care plan includes placement with a business mentor to help prepare her for independent living.

To date, the Ewafe Project has rescued 259 children, and reintegrated 181 with loving families! Thank you so much for making this possible.

Ewafe Project: Autumn Update 2025

So many children have received vital support and so many lives have been changed through our Ewafe Project. Thank you so much for your support.

In quarter 3 of 2025:

8 children were admitted to the Ewafe home.
76 children were rehabilitated through the provision of a range of services.
4 children were successfully reintegrated into families following rehabilitation.
10 family followed ups were conducted.
8 family tracings were carried out.
2 children were equipped with skills for independent living.
6 parents were engaged in parental training sessions.
3 staff training sessions were held.
1 child was identified for foster care.

Rehabilitation

This quarter, we supported and cared for a total of 76 children at the Ewafe home. The children all received a range of essential services aimed at addressing their wellbeing, growth, and development: food, medical care, psychosocial support, education and play.

Family Tracing

This quarter, 8 family tracings were conducted. 3 of these were very successful, 3 children’s relatives were located and all expressed appreciation to the Ewafe team for the care and protection provided to the children. These children will all be resettled with their family members next quarter.

Family Reintegration

This quarter, we successfully resettled 4 children with their relatives and conducted 10 family follow-up visits for children who had previously been reunited with their families. A further 6 parents who had successfully been reunited with their children also received additional training.

Foster Care

This quarter, one additional child was identified for foster care. A potential foster family was identified, and they had a positive meeting with the child at the Ewafe home, facilitated by one of our social workers.

Independent Living

2 young people were supported this quarter to prepare them for independent living. They are learning hairdressing and will be graduating soon.

Projects Update: Autumn 2025

This quarter, as demand for our services increased, our dedicated staff and community safeguarding officers continued to protect and empower children. Our team made communities safer for young people by providing safe spaces, free counselling, emergency support, advocacy, and much more.This quarter:

954 children attended our Saturday Kids Clubs across 10 centres.
678 girls attended our Girls Support Groups.
156 Girls Support Group counselling sessions were held.
2,034 period products were supplied to girls aged 12 to 17.
64 children participated in weekly football training through our Football Project.
8 children were admitted to our Ewafe home.
4 children were reintegrated with loving families.

Norah's story

Norah*, age 14, was mocked by her peers about her performance in class. This knocked her confidence and caused her to withdraw from school. She lied to her parents about being sick, so she could avoid going to school. Norah’s teacher noticed her attendance had declined, and talked to her about her worries. The teacher referred Norah to Kids Club Kampala for counselling, where she was supported to open up and share her feelings without judgement. The KCK counsellor worked with Norah to develop her self esteem. As a result, Norah was able to go back to school and continue her studies with confidence. She said, "Thank you, Kids Club Kampala, for loving me."

This quarter, we continued to provide free education to children through our Encouraging Education and Child Sponsorship Projects. In partnership with The Mango Tree, we were also able to support young people in Kenya and Tanzania to access education through the Learning and Skills for Life Project. This quarter:

97 children received daily free non-formal education through our Encouraging Education Project.
98% of children achieved A-C grades in literacy, and 94% achieved A-C grades in numeracy.
32 children attended school under the Gweneth School Project.
198 children in Uganda accessed education through our Child Sponsorship Project.
6 children graduated from our Child Sponsorship Project
646 children in Kenya and 160 children in Tanzania were supported with their education through the Learning and Skills for Life Project.

Adeline's story

When Adeline's* father left, her mother faced the challenge of raising her family alone. Without a steady income, Adeline’s mother struggled to pay rent and provide enough food for them to eat. With no money for school fees, Adeline had to drop out of school and stay at home for 2 years.

Thanks to Kids Club Kampala, Adeline received a scholarship, enabling her to return to class. At age 10, she is now in Primary Three, enjoying school and dreaming of becoming a doctor.

Adeline’s mother said she is deeply grateful for the support, sharing: "Bless Kids Club Kampala for the great work they do in the community."

Over the past few months, our Tailoring and Knitting and Carpentry Projects have helped 132 people gain practical skills, paving the way to stable employment and brighter futures for their families. With our partner organisation, The Mango Tree, we were also able to expand our reach and strengthen families in Kenya through the Our Lives, Our Land Project.

This quarter:

58 students graduated from our Tailoring and Knitting Project, and 58 new students enrolled.
16 boys and young men developed skills for life through our Carpentry Project.
8 children were cared for at our Hope Centre creche.
11,000+ trees were planted through the Our Lives, Our Land Project.
8 community farming groups were established.
573 households in Kenya participated in climate forecasting training.
240 people took part in training on beekeeping, kitchen gardening, agroforestry, and fruit cultivation, benefiting approximately 1,680 people.
6,000+ children planted their first trees.
