Ewafe Project: Autumn Update 2023

Exciting Renovations at the Ewafe Project
The Ewafe home has been a hive of activity this quarter! Last time we updated you on the cow’s new calf. Well in order to accommodate this new addition to the Ewafe home, a new cattle enclosure is being built. This sort of activity will help to encourage the home’s self-sufficiency and sustainability, helping ensure the long-term viability of the project and make it more resilient to external challenges. A brand-new toilet block was also constructed to accommodate the large number of children we have staying at the home. Despite the challenging nature of our work at Ewafe, the team have been doing an incredible job.
- Admitted 7 more children to the Ewafe home
- 85 children have received care, support and rehabilitation
- Reintegrated 2 children with family members

Ewafe Project: Summer Update 2023

Ewafe Project - Record Reintegrations,
A New Calf & *Sophia's Story
The team have worked incredibly hard over the last quarter and have reintegrated a record number of children in any given three month period at Ewafe. The cow had a new calf, and the children have had the opportunity to learn how to milk the cow, and of course, drink the fresh milk every day!
- Admitted 11 more children to the Ewafe home
- 90 children have received care, support and rehabilitation
- Reintegrated 12 children with family members - a wonderful achievement!
- Placed a further 2 children into foster families
*Sophia, aged 13 years had spent 2 years and 3 months living at the Ewafe home. She had been living with an aunt in Kampala but had gone missing during covid lockdown and was referred to the local police station. Eventually, our social workers managed to find her grandparents in Mbale district (far Eastern Uganda). Her grandparents thought she must have died 'We put announcements on NTV television, Bukedde Newspapers and Bukedde television in search of our child but after a long time, we gave up because we thought our child must have been sacrificed but God is so kind to us that He protected our child.' Community members of the village Mbale district witnessed how happy Sophia’s relatives were and they thanked Ewafe for the great work of rescuing vulnerable children." * Name Changed

Ewafe Project: Spring Update 2023

More Children Return to Loving Families & *Ronnie's Story
This is the first time since pre COVID-19 in which the total number of children staying at the Ewafe home has decreased! This is due to more children being reunited with their relatives or placed with foster families, thanks to our new Ewafe vehicle making tracing for families much easier.
- Admitted 2 more children to the Ewafe home
- 84 children have received care, support and rehabilitation
- Reintegrated 5 children with family members
- Placed 4 children into foster families, a huge achievement for the project!
*Ronnie was referred to the Ewafe Home in May 2020. He had been found on his own in a small room with no food by *Aidah, the women's counsellor of the local village. It transpired that following the passing of Ronnie's parents he was sadly abandoned by his other relatives. During his stay at Ewafe, Ronnie was cared for, provided counselling and sponsored to go to school, all whilst our social workers attempted to trace for other safe family members.
However, after much searching it became apparent that reintegration with family was not going to be possible for Ronnie and so we then began the process of foster care. Amazingly, after hearing that Ronnie required a foster home Aidah got back in touch and explained that she was a trained foster carer and would love to take on Ronnie. Following conversations between Ronnie, Aidah, our social workers and the probation officer, Ronnie was successfully placed with Aidah and is now living happily with the family." * Names Changed
