Ewafe Project: Summer Update 2022

By Andy Brown | Supporter Care Manager

Welcome to your Summer update. It's been another busy quarter for us here at Kids Club Kampala and we have lots to update you on.

Ewafe Project Update

It has been another exceptionally busy quarter at the Ewafe Home. We have seen a 100% increase in admissions to the home compared to the previous quarter. However, on a more positive note we also saw our highest number of reintegrations since before the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also pleased to announce that good progress is being made with our brand new foster care programme. This quarter we received two applications from prospective families and following assessments one of the families has now been successfully approved. Below are some key statistics from the past quarter:

  • Rescued and admitted 16 children into the home.
  • Reintegrated 10 children back with their families.
  • Provided counselling and medical care to the 79 children currently staying at the home.

*Mary's Story

In April 2021, 10 year old *Mary was referred to the Ewafe Project by the local police. It transpires that Mary had travelled to Kampala with her sister to visit a relative but somehow the sisters became separated at the bus station and Mary ended up stranded. A good Samaritan found Mary on her own and took her to the local police station to get help. At this point Mary was referred to the Ewafe project and she was settled into the home whilst our social workers traced for her family. Thankfully, earlier this quarter our team made a breakthrough, as with help from local community leaders we were able to find Mary's family. In April 2022, 1 year after going missing, Mary was reunited with her family. They had almost given up hope of ever seeing her again, but thanks to the hard work of our social workers, Mary can be with her family again.

“I had lost hope that I would ever see my daughter again. I travelled to different areas like Yumbe, Congo, Arua, Koboko searching for my child. But I am grateful to the lord that my daughter has finally come back home. May God bless you abundantly."
