Kuarna women hosted the first ever Firesticks women's conference on Kuarna Country, Adelaide welcoming over 20 First Nations women from across South Australia. Women travelled from as far as North Queensland, Alice springs and remote and regional areas of South Australia.
Together over three days the women yarned and shared knowledge on their roles in looking after their country and community including the use of fire. The women were welcomed to an afternoon tea on Monday 6th of March with the Governor of SA Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC which was a very significant occasion for all. https://www.governor.sa.gov.au/vice-regal/speeches/afternoon-tea-for-the-sa-womens-firestick-conference
The time spent together was made all the more special as the gathering coincided with International women's week. The women are keen to progress their role in land management practices, share knowledge and support their communities to remove obstacles to implementing cultural fire on country.
The event included time together walking, talking, feeling and assessing country and a lunch and afternoon spent with partners who can support their aspirations into the future. See https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=528817479422933&set=a.115936650711020&locale=de_DE
Without the incredible contribution from GlobalGiving to Firesticks Alliance to support Kaurna women to implement their aspiration to host this workshop and strengthen and connect women from across the lands of SA this would not have been possible. Firesticks and Kaurna working together were able to leverage investment provided by GlobalGiving to support this incredible inaugural event.
