Support the 21k in 21 days Challenge in Spain. Participants have committed to walk, run, bike, or swim for a total distance of 21 kilometers (half marathon) within 21 days to raise awareness and funds to end human trafficking. Your donation will support A21's Reach, Rescue, and Restore programs across 13 countries. REACH is the difference between vulnerability & safety. RESCUE is the difference between exploitation & freedom. RESTORE is the difference between re-victimization & independence.
VULNERABILITY to trafficking occurs when an individual is exposed to risk factors like violence and abuse, poor education, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, and isolation. EXPLOITATION happens when vulnerable people are trafficked through force and/or deception. Even when a survivor exits a trafficking situation, the resulting trauma compounded with the original unresolved risk factors perpetuates the likelihood of being RE-VICTIMIZED, and thus the cycle of trafficking continues.
REACH programs reduce vulnerability by educating and equipping everyone to understand, identify, and reduce the risk of human trafficking with educational curriculum, prevention programs, and awareness campaigns. RESCUE programs overcome exploitation by securing the freedom of victims and the conviction of traffickers with hotlines, child advocacy centers, identification trainings, and legal support. RESTORE programs maximize community services to assist survivors and prevent re-victimization.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING STOPPED BEFORE IT HAPPENS (1.4 million people were reached through prevention and awareness events and presentations in 2019). VICTIMS SET FREE AND TRAFFICKERS HELD ACCOUNTABLE (160 operations secured freedom for 331 victims of trafficking and 31 traffickers were sentenced to 638 years in prison in 2019.) SURVIVORS HAVE LONG TERM ACCESS TO AN ABUNDANCE OF RESOURCES (323 survivors assisted by A21 in 2019)
