Free Education for Rural Children & Youth in Ghana

INTRODUCTION

In August 2022, Impact Youth partnered with Ayenya community to support the refurbishment of a three-classroom block and a staff common room at Ayenya D/A Basic School. The program is aimed at enhancing a better learning environment for the students. Three classroom blocks intended to accommodate seventy-one (71) students and six (6) teachers. Significant progress which has been made on this project from August 2022 to December 2022 is captured in this report. The refurbishment is now five months in.

GENERAL PROJECT PROGRESS

Refurbishment of a 3 Classroom Block

The previous classroom block was constructed with mud and has dilapidated over the years. It posed a danger to the school children and nearby inhabitants. With this in mind, we pulled down the mud structures, began construction and are rebuilding them with cement. On completion, there will be a dwarf wall with a wire mesh and three (3) doors for each of the classrooms.

Refurbishment of a Staff Common Room

Block work is almost complete. It will accommodate six (6) Junior High School teachers who currently have to do their work under a tree at the mercy of the weather. This impedes teaching and learning and therefore has a negative impact on students’ academic performance and the quality of experience for the teachers.

ACTIVITIES TO BE COMPLETED

1. Casting of the floor
2. Dividing the classrooms into 3 to accommodate Junior High School classes 1, 2 & 3 3. Electrical wiring of the building
4. Plastering and painting of the block
5. Installation of the doors
6. Fixing of white marker boards

CONCLUSION

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Impact Youth and its donors for their support. This is changing the school environment and gives us hope that in the near future, we will have a conducive teaching and learning environment to help transform lives of the students in Ayenya D/A Basic School.
