The Fashion Pathway: From Education to Employment

By Alberta Elewosi | Project Lead

Introduction

Access to quality education remains a significant challenge for many children and youth in rural communities across Ghana. Financial constraints, limited infrastructure, and lack of career guidance often hinder young people from reaching their full potential. In response to these challenges, Impact Youth Foundation, now transitioned into the Sports Leadership Academy (SLAC) have played a critical role in bridging the educational gap by providing free educational support and career development opportunities.

Background and Organizational Transition
The Impact Youth Foundation has, over the years, been committed to supporting underprivileged children through their educational journeys. With its transition into the Sports Leadership Academy (SLAC), the organization has expanded its focus to include not only education but also leadership development, employability, and career pathways for young people and Student Athletes.

Educational Support and Youth Development
Through its programs, SLAC has supported numerous students from rural communities by:

  • Providing access to basic and secondary education
  • Offering mentorship and career guidance
  • Supporting graduates with employment opportunities and skill development

This holistic approach ensures that beneficiaries are not only educated but also equipped with the skills and direction needed to succeed in the workforce.

Success Stories: Eva and Angelina
A notable example of SLAC’s impact is seen in the success of two beneficiaries, Eva and Angelina. Both young women successfully completed their studies in Fashion Design at Asanska University. Following their graduation, SLAC facilitated their placement with professional fashion design companies, allowing them to gain practical experience and further develop their skills.

Eva and Angelina have expressed deep appreciation to the Sports Leadership Academy for the support they received throughout their educational journey. They are particularly grateful for the opportunity to transition smoothly from school into the professional world, where they are now building meaningful careers in fashion design.

Impact and Outcomes
The continued efforts of SLAC demonstrate the importance of sustained educational support combined with career development initiatives. The organization’s work has resulted in:

  • Increased access to education for rural youth
  • Improved employment prospects for graduates
  • Empowerment of young individuals to pursue professional careers

Conclusion
The Sports Leadership Academy continues to play a vital role in transforming the lives of rural children and youth in Ghana. By providing free education support, mentorship, and career opportunities, SLAC through the Impact Village Project is helping to create a generation of skilled, confident, and self-reliant young people. The success stories of beneficiaries like Eva and Angelina highlight the long-term impact of such initiatives and reinforce the importance of investing in youth development.
