This project raises awareness, understanding of the attitudes and motivations of Roma girls and women in Serbia, in order to improve their health and sexual and reproductive health, knowledge about HPV, cervical cancer, but also about menopause and the importance of regular medical check-ups for chronic diseases. The project aims to encourage health-seeking behavior among Roma women and girls, while setting positive examples for the wider Roma community in terms of prevention.
Roma women represent one of the most vulnerable social groups, often facing significant barriers to fully accessing healthcare. They frequently live in poverty, in challenging social, economic, and family conditions, and are marginalized from mainstream society. Many experience discrimination, exclusion, and are often victims of domestic and partner violence.
Roma women of different ages (girls, adult women and elderly women) are aware of the importance and ways of preserving their health and are empowered to exercise their rights and seek access to health services, especially sexual and reproductive health services, in order to prevent diseases and receive adequate care.
From the outset of the project, the project team will engage local self-governments in the implementation of activities. Regular updates on the project's progress and results will be shared with relevant institutions, including centers for social work, health centers, health mediators, and the Ministry of Health at the national level. The team will actively advocate for the inclusion of these measures in Local Health Action Plans and Local Action Plans for the Social Inclusion of Roma.
