The project in Magugu is a very ambitious project, involving the construction of a secondary school and a road linking the school to the village of Sarame. Our team has been making progress over the last few months in submitting applications for funding to various private and public entities, in order to be able to start the construction work.
Through various funds and donations received, we have been able to buy the 20 bikes that the children will use to go to school in groups. Along with the bicycles, helmets for the children's safety and anti-theft devices for the bicycles were also purchased.
In addition, it was also possible to buy water bottles for the children so that they can have clean water at hand all day long.
In terms of activities, the educational garden project has been revised and deepened in order to be improved.
In fact, the permaculture process has been initiated in the garden surrounding the school, which is a central initiative in the dynamics of our project. On the one hand, it will allow the school to achieve food self-sufficiency, reducing the environmental impact of the users' consumption. On the other hand, proper hydration and nutrition are essential for access to quality education. Therefore, the canteen will guarantee a meal to all the students of the school, which will considerably reduce the under-nutrition, especially of the most precarious students who cannot eat every lunchtime.
Permaculture is a method that aims to regenerate sustainable and resilient ecosystems while respecting the environment and biodiversity. To cultivate the garden, the local team is developing farming methods that do not use pesticides or chemical fertilisers, a major cause of food contamination.
