Dear Supporter,
So many things have happened since our last updates, we want to share some news with you about our houses, students, and staff.
On July Bonus Day, we successfully raised $9,066 through our 3rd campaign of the year on GlobalGiving in less than 24 hours. We are incredibly grateful for your dedication to helping girls in rural regions of Morocco. With your ongoing support, we are making a long-lasting impact on the lives of teenage girls and their communities in the High Atlas.
Later in the same month, our EFA students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of enjoyable activities during their holidays. Some were lucky to join Mountaineer Bouchra Baibanu's expedition this summer (Bouchra is the first North African woman to climb Everest!) They have been exploring nature, bonding over cookouts, and meeting other teenage girls from different parts of the country. These camps play a significant role in fostering lifelong friendships and creating cherished memories.
During the following weeks, our alumni had unforgettable experiences as they assisted Renovad VOICE's 6-week pilot program, teaching English to children in the High Atlas villages.
Fast forward to September, we were looking forward to welcoming back our students for the new academic year. Sadly, in the late hours of Friday, September 8th, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the High Atlas Mountain region south of Marrakech. The epicenter was close to the area where Education For All (EFA) operates boarding houses for girls. Unfortunately, four out of six of these houses have been completely destroyed and require reconstruction. As a result, we launched an emergency fundraiser dedicated to rebuilding our homes and providing essential emergency relief to our students and their families in the affected region.
We also formed a dedicated tracing team on the ground who worked tirelessly to locate all of our EFA students who were spending their last days of the holidays with their families in their respective homes.
Despite the hardships, we have been deeply moved by the incredible generosity of our supporters from all over the world. Thank you all for reaching out with words of support, donating and sharing our cause.
As we continue with our rebuilding efforts, we remain committed to providing temporary homes to our girls and ensuring they have our full support throughout the upcoming academic year.
We will keep you all updated through our newsletters and social media. Once again, thank you to everyone who helped us during such hard times. Your unconditional support truly means the world to us and has given us the strength and motivation to carry on.
Together, we make an impact.
