Despite the interruptions of the little lockdowns and restrictions from covid 19, Likulezi managed tyo complete its educational remit for 2021 ! Likulezi is a grassroots communmity project and most of its training is done by the volunteer members of the Likulezi.project. Although there are 4 programme on the go at all times we feel that the Education/ Training component is the backbone of the project as without it all programmes would fall apart
.Since joining GlobalGiving in the autumn of 2021 the following Trainings have taken place : Sewing workshop, chiefs self testing training,Facilitation workshop, Permaculture Training for Orphan Guardians, Drama awareness campaign, Capacity buiding for the community Groups, Chess Training,.....not forgetting that all our Orphans got to school/ college and one to medical school!
Our Library which is a great Educational tool not only for the secondary school students and teachers but for the community at large who can borrow books and read the weekly newspapers. Tjhe remit of the Library not only includes the books, but also runs a chess club, a listening story telling circle for children, a holiday school, and runs the annual Likulezi Olympics ! This is all under the management of "Happy" our Librarian.
" Happy" has little formal education and didnt complete secondary school. He contracted HIV and was very sick for a long time, after he started treatment he came to us a a schoolboy volunteer, visiting the sick and going out with the education Drama Groups..He managed to get enough education on the job in order to be able to manage the library with all its tentacles. He has been with us for more than 20 years now. This only goes to prove how Likulezi is truly a University for the marginalised..
