STILL ALIVE.....WITH ALL THANKS TO YOU !!
We are very happy to report that likulezi has survived again this year ! Though struggling with the rising cost of living, a hike in school fees and the vagaries of the weather due to climate change we are still afloat. Although the whole world is also struggling with all these issues, the poor are the ones at the bottom of the pyramid. Here at Likulezi we carry on...because we are resilient. Resilience is the great gift of the poor.
2022 saw us back into full swing after the restrictions of covid. In fact we didnt lose any of our staff or volunteers from covid, even though restrictions were sporadic..Educational activities took priority with workshops, Trainings, Meetings, and our Library back in full use.Our Library has become a hub of the project as it caters for the educatuonal needs from the "Cradle to the Grave"......with childrens storytelling, a childrens holiday school, Literacy sessions, chess club, curriculum books for the secondary school students and Teachers alike, novels for the surrounding community and further afield and the great asset of the weekly newspapers for all to browse.! The Library also extends to holding the "Likulezi Olympics" ( childrens sports day) and the football finals.......and all focused on Education. This little Library has now evolved into a true Community Centre.
January will see Likulezi "Resting"...well not really ......... we close because January is" Planting" time... a time when we all, both young and old, must be in our fields from early morning, in the hope of a good harvest in April!!.
Please see photos of Activities and achievements to end our year.
