Challenge

In order to cope with the challenges of street life many youth rely on substances. For many this results in an addiction which without professional support and intervention they cannot overcome. Many of the young people use glue initially and then move on to alcohol and other drugs. Unless this cycle of addiction is broken it is impossible for the young person to have an opportunity of a fulfilling life.

Solution

For the young people who are dependant / addicted to substances attending at residential rehabilitation treatment centres will provide them with the opportunity to leave behind substance abuse. On completion of the treatment the programme will assist them in accessing appropriate housing (may be at a different location from where there were before treatment so support will be required in this transition), on-going support and the acquisition of skills whether in a trade or in running a business.

Long-Term Impact

Giving these young people the possibility of a life free from the trials of addiction will give them freedom to explore opportunities for a better life for themselves and will allow them to establish families where they have a better opportunity to support them.
