As I write Joe is now two months into rehab at Promises Rehabilitation Centre in Webuye about an hour from Kitale. After Joe completed his first three months rehab in February 2022 he went to stay in a very rural area with a family member. At the time we thought that it was good that he was away from the familiar streets and temptations of Kitale and for him to be with family. As we were later to realise there hadn't been factored in professional support for Joe around addiction. After a while at his new place he made new friends who were drinking and slowly he began to take alcohol again. After a few months he returned to Kitale.
Following discussions with our partner organisation here in Kitale - KAP - Kitale Community Advancement Programme (Also on GlobalGiving if you would like to find out more about their work) we felt that Promises is a better match as a recovery place for Joe and also that following the 3 month programme that he will return to Kitale where there will be AA meetings and also supports to assist Joe in remaining sober. The update following a recent visit to Joe at Promises by members of the AMV - World of Work (WOW) team, Rehema and Godfrey, was that Joe is working well through the programme and the Promises team are very happy with his progress. Over the next few weeks the WOW team will be arranging for rental and equipping of a house for Joe as we prepare for his return to Kitale.
Thanks to all those who have supported us in facilitating Joe's recovery.
