Addressing the dynamic needs of LGBTQ+ people

I`m excited to update you on our work, our data for change project kicked off on the 26th of September 2022  with all the 33 participants. 

Due to the  fact that government sponsored crackdown on LGBTIQ+ organizations and groups has been going on for years , there have been very little or no projects that specifically address challenges or directly protect, defend and promote the rights of LGBTIQ+ people to alleviate their sufferings.

The absence of such activities and the visibility of a strong advocacy campaigns  may lead to the perception that discrimination against LGBTIQ+ persons in Tanzania is rare or sporadic

 LGBT+ human rights activists face official harassment. Likewise, there are reports of LGBT+  individuals facing harassment from law enforcement officials who use criminal charges as means of obtaining bribes. Societal discrimination and a lack of understanding of LGBT+ people also lead to arbitrary arrests and forced anal examinations. In addition, the LGBT+ community is often denied access to social services, jobs, housing, education, health care, and legal services.

That is why we  saw the need to  train and equit Activists  who can use data to advocate for change. We want to change laws and policies that suppress LGBT rights in Tanzania;

We will be starting a data collection project early next month and a data advocacy project early next year,.
