Your donation will directly go towards purchase of goats, sheep, chicken, camels and cows for East Pokot people. Households of elderly, persons with disability, orphans, malnourished & widows will be targeted as beneficiaries. In 2017, HAO ran a fundraiser themed Adopt-A-Goat where people donated $50 to buy & give a goat to one household in East Pokot, Baringo County in Kenya as extreme poverty eradication effort. More than 30,000 livestock were lost in a 6-year drought prior to the campaign.
Pokot People are pastoralists who depend on livestock as the only means of livelihood largely due to limited access to livelihood assets with over 90% lacking personal skills and only 01% having access to credit facilities - and low income with over 60% earning averagely less than US$300 annually. More than 30,000 (80%) livestock were lost in a 6-year drought. This project will assist households with most vulnerable persons to empower them rebuild their lives and advance their potentials .
Hifadhi Africa provides livelihood support to the most vulnerable people in the society to empower them rebuild their lives, advance their potentials through purchase and distribution of animals and chicken to families of elderly, persons living with disability, malnourished, orphans and widows. In return this will improve their nutrition, livelihoods and support school going children.
The project will address problems of cattle rustling, malnutrition, inadequate livelihood diversification and high illiteracy rate. This will enhance their self-reliance and livelihoods at both community and household levels thus improving on health and enabling them to educate for their children, reduce poverty and illiteracy rates.
