Dedicated life

Before America

Thank you for your essential support in recuing abandoned babies and children and providing them adoptive families. Placing older children brings additional challenges as they are already developing and have strong cultural bonds. Counselling and preparing adoptive families is essential to ensure their smooth transition from care to a family home. Therefore we are pleased to share that the head of CARA, the Indian Adoption Authority in New Delhi, has dedicated a boook which provides insights from parents who have been through the process to one of our former beneficiaries.

The book provides a detailed guide to the adoption process in India, covering legal, emotional, and practical aspects. It includes real-life stories from adoptive parents, offering comfort and reassurance. The book also offers tips and strategies for prospective parents to prepare emotionally, financially, and practically. Adoption can bring significant changes to both parents and children, enhancing relationships, fostering a sense of purpose, and fostering empathy, tolerance and character.

We are also very proud to share that he has dedicated his book to Santvana, one of our former adopted children. The fact that he has chosen our child demonstrates that not only are we one of the largest adoption centers but that we also have deep connections with the adoption authorities in India. In his dedication, he says: “I would like to dedicate the book to Santvana. Who, despite suffering from severe burns and losing her entire family, was fortunate enough to find a caring family in the United States who provided her with the utmost care after undergoing multiple surgeries, who is now thriving in life.

Santvana also shares her thoughts saying: “I am writing this letter to share my life adventure in America so far. I was adopted from India at the age of 10. I am currently in 9th grade in America, and live with an amazing Jewish family.

“When I was seven years old, my family in India died because of a gas explosion, but only I survived. I always had a dream of getting adopted by someone who lived in America and gave me the culture I had when I was zero years old. I never thought that my dreams would come true. Living in America has given me lots of opportunities. For example, it gives me a chance to become a physical therapist. I missed India for a lot of reasons, but I have adapted to America really well. Recently I have been trying to read a lot of Buddhist concepts. I have a lot to learn, but I am very excited when I read books about Hindu and Buddhist philosophies. I also do daily meditation practice, even trying to discover myself.

“I believe that a child who is older like I was, should have the right to know and to continue their spiritual practices. When I landed in America, my mom knew that it would not have been fair to me if she decided to change my religion. I also believe in karma and the karma law. A few years later, I started to realise the reason I got adopted to a Jewish family was not because it was coincidence, instead a fate or in other words is was my destiny.

“If there is one thing I learned for sure, it is that one should never give up on what you dream of, what you dream to be, and how you plan to change the world for the better.

“The book contains various formats of adoptions in the country and he has beautifully covered issues about various procedure related to adoption in the country, motivation to adopt and adoption experiences shared by a few adoptive parents after the end of their adoption journey. Positive adoption language is something that he has highlighted deserves a mention here.”

We do still keep in contact with Santvana and her adoptive family but it is also fantastic to see her word in such an essential and helpful publication that should inspire other adoptive families to give our children the opportunities and love they deserve.

Your support keeps our center operating and giving more children like Santvana the hope and drive to achieve their dreams. Thank you.
