As you know we work in Rural India with Childline to ensure if a new born is abandoned we get to it before it is too late. Newborns need nurishment and protection from the elements, wild animals and unsuspecting traffic! It's a harsh reality but this is the world we live in.
As we are gearing up for family time over the holidays and thinking of how thankful we should be for the lives we have, it seems incredulous to imagine any mother could surrender such a helpless infant at it's most vunerable. We wanted to explain the mindset of the women that do this.
This sound clip from a recent journalist who wanted to know why too explains it well, you'll be suprised at what she discovers...
Snehalaya is not there to judge, condone or rebute anyone, least of all girls who are surviving atrocities whilst facing motherhood as a minor without any family support. We are simply here to ensure survival and that our babies are supported in their first few months. We work hard to find a safe and loving place to call home.
The government have made many changes with the CARA guidelines in an attempt to address the growing rate of children in care. Sadly removing some of the processes and practises in the adoption and vetting process means it is now easier and quicker to get a child - for traffickers and perverts as much as it is for anyone else. We would like to see stricter and more controlled vetting in place that allows us a continued dialogue before and post placement. Now more then ever our infants need your support.
This project also works to support the mothers - who often are forced to hide their pregnancy and the rape, while enduring a life of manual labour right up until they endure an unassisted birth and mental torture of surrendering a human soul to an uncertain future to save their own life. Tough times.
We work to save infants, support mothers medically and emotionally and to break down stereotypes and patriarchal rule that forces these awful situations in the first place.
We urge you to consider becoming a regular donor of this project just $10 or £5 a month can mean life or death to a new born baby and their mother. If you can consider forgoing 1 small luxury a month to help a helpless child and her newborn please click the currency you wish to give in to SAVE LIVES $ or £
