Thank you for your incredible support! We are well on our way to reaching our goal! With the Reach The Beach event scheduled for September 15th, and more fundraising leading up to the race, we’re excited to see more projects and progress in Mexico and Rwanda made possible.
One such goal that Reach the Beach fundraising will support is bolstering PIH's community health worker program in Chiapas, Mexico. PIH’s acompanantes serve as bridges between the local clinic and the surrounding community. They are trusted neighbors who have been carefully recruited, trained, and supported by supervisors and local clinicians. They visit patients in their homes, interact with their families, and come to understand patients’ physical, emotional, and social situations—all of which come into play in maintaining good health. They become their patients’ strongest advocates and, quite often, their good friends.
As PIH works to revitalize under-performing clinics in Chiapas, community health workers support patients suffering from diabetes, hypertention, alcohol abuse, depression, epilepsy, schizophrenia, and more, as well as focus on improving community-wide nutrition and maternal health.
It's thanks to your generosity that this important work continues. From all of our patients and staff, thank you! We're looking forward to the race!
