In Mexico, cancer patients are not receiving their treatments, making them susceptible to being in danger of death. Due to covid19, government agencies converted hospitals to treat those infected, leaving aside patients with other conditions. It is essential to support cancer patients to reduce the risk of contagion of Covid19, have comprehensive support services and receive their cancer treatments despite the hospital reconversion. Cancer was not quarantined! This is a matter of life or death!
We are currently facing two situations: on one hand, patients with neoplasms, under chemotherapy regimens or stem cell transplantation, are more vulnerable and will present a higher mortality before the contagion of Covid19. On the other hand, these patients have been affected by the hospital reconversion due to the pandemic, by denying them services (treatments, consultations, studies). This without counting that some patients fear going to hospitals because of the risk of contagion.
We will reduce the risks of contagion of COVID-19 and the delays and omissions in treatments in cancer patients, derived from the hospital reconversion due to the pandemic through information tools, accompaniment, hospital navigation, management of integrative services, as well as the provision of PPE supplies.
The project aims to support and empower 300 cancer patients in Baja California by providing advise on their rights as patients, the Hospital Reconversion Guideline derived from the pandemic, as well as NOM 041 and NOM 048, which are the specific standards for the detection and treatment of breast cancer and prostate cancer. So they can receive all their treatments and save their lives.
