Dear donnors,
We would like to share with you what is going on up here at Making History Association. Our staff has worked on in the planing process and in its methodology. There are a lot of work to be done after that and we look foward to getting started!
If you are curious to know the project methodology, here it is for your appreciation:
1. Partnership establishing between the Making History Association, the Childhood and Youth Court and three foster care services.
2. Definition of children and adolescents who will participate in the project.
3. Announcement and dissemination of the project.
a) Overview presentation.
4. Recruitment of godfathers.
5. Initial selection of godparents
a) Group meeting. Candidates send a letter of intent and the project team defines those who will participate in the qualification.
6. Qualification for the godparents
a) Six meetings on:
- The history of the foster care services;
- Contextualization of affective sponsorship on provisions of law;
- The development in childhood and adolescence and the behavior as a form of communication;
- The importance of bonding (attachment theory).
- Construction of autonomy and relationship with teenagers
b) Two recreational days (children and adolescents participate)
c) Home visit and interview with each candidate and his family
7. Presentation for the foster care team
Two meetings
8. Project presentation for children and adolescents who will be invited to participate:
a) Group meeting - for explanation of project goals and listening to the questions and expectations.
b) Individual interviews with each child or adolescent who will participate - for inquiries and match-up of expectations.
9. Pairing
The Project staff, considering the profile of children and godparents, will previously suggest the pairs. If, after the recreational days, godfathers and child or adolescent assess not to have affinity, the project team will review the pairing.
10. Improvements on shelter’s facilities
11. Gradual interaction of pairs. Possibilities:
- Activities at the shelter
- Walks in parks and squares
- Going to the cinemas, theater, museums and other cultural spaces in the city
- Attending to family celebrations together
- Participating in the school life of children and adolescents (eg: lessons, meetings, school holidays or year-end performances)
- Attending to parties in the foster care service
- Accompanying the child or adolescent in medical appointments.
- Accompanying the teenager in activities in which they need to be with an adult (eg: opening a bank account, delivering CVs, enrolling in a course, etc.)
- Travelling together (needs special permission of the judiciary)
- Offering financial support for education, culture, sports practice, leisure, professional development, or medical treatments.
- Assisting in financial education, making savings and / or giving allowance
12. Specialized supervision for the godfathers and godmothers
a) During the first year: individual supervision every two months interposed with supervision in group every two months; phone calls and e-mail communication.
B. Subsequent years: Group supervision every two months and individual supervision when requested.
