The final project report

By Monica Vidiz | Monica Vidiz

Dear donors,

We are happy to share the final results of our project with you!

The main goal of the project has been reached, as the bonds between mentors and mentees is well established. They have been sharing lots of moments together, such as: studying, going to the movies, cooking, knowing new places around the city, and spending the weekends and holidays together. Children and adolescents trust their mentors; they now have an adult reference who they can count on for a lifetime!

The mentors have been coached by our team to help kids in developing new life skills, especially those related to autonomous life, like: using public transportation, choosing and attending their extra-curricular activities, studying by theirselves, knowing themselves and building life projects. Besides their autonomy, the mentorship also affected the children's social network, which has been strengthened not only by the relationship with each mentor, but also with their relatives and friends. There was an increase of 53% on the number of children's meaningful affective bonds after the project! School was another area of impact, as in 30% of the cases the school engagement level changed form weak to medium.

This is a testimony of one of the mentors, Simone:

“Me and my husband became mentors for two childen: one boy at the age of 10, and a girl at 17. It seems like they have been part of our family for so long!! We have been winning their trust day by day. As there are two mentees, at the beggining, we decided to balance the individual and the pair visits, giving each one their single moments. Nowadays, we have a trustful and respectful relationship. Together, we learned to get along with each others' qualities and faults. We enjoy going to the movies, spending the day on a park, playing board games, or just staying home watching movies, cooking, making their life-stories book; we also like to travel to the farm, or even to just talk! They share what they are going through in school, with friends, in the foster-care service and, in respect of the teenager, in work. It is very good being together and these feelings makes us believe it is forever!! It's hard to explain this experience in words, but to cut a long story short, the word is love!!"

Thank you for your support, which has made beautiful stories like this one possible!

All best,

Instituto Fazendo História Team
