Australian Red Cross has launched an appeal to help people affected by the current crisis in Afghanistan.
On 15 August, after renewed hostilities, Taliban forces took control of Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, seizing control of the country in a matter of weeks. This comes after foreign forces began their withdrawal from Afghanistan in April. These recent events have been devastating for the people of Afghanistan. Thousands have been injured and a further half-a-million people have been displaced as they flee their homes in search of safety.
Afghan Red Crescent is active across the country, and while recent events have disrupted their humanitarian operations, they have unique access to people in need. Every day they help people who live in areas other agencies are unable to reach. Red Crescent staff and volunteers provide life-saving healthcare to the sick and injured, reconnect families who have been separated through conflict, provide clean water and sanitation facilities to communities, as well as shelter for displaced families
Your kind donations will support our Red Cross and Red Crescent partners in Afghanistan continue their lifesaving work on the ground and will help people from Afghanistan currently living in Australia find missing family members caught up in this crisis. That support may include: - Vital healthcare and other humanitarian assistance delivered by Red Cross and Red Crescent partners in Afghanistan - Supporting communities in Australia to locate and reconnect with missing family in Afghanistan
